5Best lit'l bug zapper in TexasAug 30, 2010
We had a yellowjacket nest under our porch and tried several things to get rid of them. Didn't want to spray them as they could possibly get very angry and find a way into our house (old 1800's). Borrowed a "Stinger" bug zapper to set it in front of the entrance hole. Waste of time! Zapper was made so that the bees would have to land on the zapper, crawl thru the tiny opennings, fly over to the first screen wire electrode, land on it, crawl thru the screen, then crawl over to the second screen wire electrode which looked to be about 3/8" away, and make sure they were touching both screens before getting zapped. All it accomplished was to get them mad!

Read up on the Flowtron which is made with alternating vertical rods for electrodes and closer togather than the screen was in the first unit. Thought it might work so I ordered it. When it came, I cut out some of the grill so the yellowjackets could fly thru it instead of having to crawl thru like the Stinger, set it out, and the fireworks began! This thing rocks, like... ZAPPPP!...ZZZZZZZzzzzzz... smoke.... flames.... no more bees!!!!! I wouldn't suggest you set this thing in a hay loft or such! It's a very serious bug zapper, and this one is the smallest one they sell! Most of the dead insects fall to the bottom (what's left of them), so it really is easier to clean. And notice that I said "easier", not "no clean-up ever". If you're too lazy to clean it out once in a while, you probably don't need a bug zapper of any make! Get a fly swatter or something!

I highly recommend this unit but stress a little caution where you place it. It's much easier to clean than the first piece of crap I borrowed and worked much better!

1CAUTION: IT CAUGHT ON FIRE when it zapped a moth!!!Aug 26, 2010
I have used this for less than a month. A few things to consider if you buy this.
a. It sure does attract bugs....mostly moths. Not sure if it caught too many mosquitoes. They fly around it, but I do not see them going into it.
b. The chemical strip on the bottom is not too secure, so I daily have to go out and check if it is still attached and has not fallen to the ground where my dogs can get ahold of it. I'd be concerned with this. Their design is very poorly thought out.
c. Tonight it zapped something for like 3 minutes straight and I went out to see what it caught. It was just another moth. As it was zapping it, you could see it sparking. I had to unplug it because it actually stared to catch fire. When I pulled it down, you can see the *multiple* burned marks on the several of the strands of wire on the cage. (Apparently it had sparked before and I was not around to notice it)

THIS IS DANGEROUS! I am so grateful I happened to be home and had the windows open so I could hear it going off and pull it before it caught the house on fire.

1Will NOT kill mosquitosAug 18, 2010
I was trying to find a cheaper way to kill mosquitos than using a CO2 device. I was reading about the science behind these types of insect killers (UV plus octonel), and the articles I read said that they would work well to kill other insects, but not mosquitos. This has exactly been the case with mine. It will kill a lot of flying insects, but won't touch mosquitos. I've tried suspending it right above water, put it at different heights and locations in the yard, and mosquitos won't go near it. I put a sheet under this thing to see what it will kill and it will kill plenty of flying critters, but not mosquitos. The problem is the other flying insects don't bother me and some of them may actually kill mosquitos as well. Overall this product has been a complete failure with regard to the reason I bought it.

5Awesome productAug 10, 2010
I bought this bug zapper about a month ago now, and it's been on since i got it out of the box. Before i had it, i was getting bit constantly by mosquitos that had found their way into my apartment. Since i plugged this bad boy in, i get bit once maybe every 5 or 6 days. This zapper really gets the job done.
