They make bugs go crazy. Works great with Terro ant bait.Aug 29, 2010 There is a lot of controversy about Riddex Plus, but from my experience they work. I used to put poison about the foundation of the house, but that stuff isn't good to use every year. So I wanted to try something less toxic. Put one Riddex in the room where my bird lives. Yearly this room will get invaded by ants. It was distressing to the bird and me. The ants would go in the cage, in his food and water dishes annoying him. As clean as I could keep the cage (it's 5' x 3' x 6') I couldn't keep the ants out. Then I used the Riddex Plus. The ants still come in but they don't go anywhere near the bird cage, they just walk around the perimeter of the room. I put down Terro liquid bait to kill the ants, (boric acid and sugar) and all they do is drink that stuff up, eventually they're gone. The Riddex doesn't prevent the insects from coming in but what it does is disorient them so much that you can easily scoop them up, trap or bait them. Flying insects will fly around in circles with the Riddex Plus and exhaust themselves and die. Because of it's ability disorient insects this will explain why users experience what seems like a bumper crop of insects when first installed. It does drive them out of the walls. On a more humorous note, there is one very little industrious spider that has taken up residence in my birds room. She has spun an elaborate web near the entry point of the ants. She catches them as they do their perimeter tour around the room. She doesn't seem phased by the Riddex or the Terro bait.
I have purchased several of these units and I'm pleased that I don't have to poison the environment to gain insect control.
Waste!Aug 17, 2010 I lived in El Paso, TX when I purchased these thinking -"oh this will help!" WRONG! There was absolutely no difference in pest control and in fact, it seems like it increased the pests! I still had to use chemical extermination in the end. A useless prodcut and a scam, in my opinion. I was sad to find out this product did not work.
I should have read the reviews before buying it.Aug 03, 2010 I don't know why I did not read the reviews before buying it. I bought them because I leave in the first floor, and every summer we experience a house-centipede infestation, so I bought this crap to put in my kitchen and bedroom in order to avoid the ugly bugs. Just this week I have to kill two with my sandals just side by side with the device. I think the bugs look for it and laugh. They probably think: "why this guy spent money on it?"
They only think useful is the nightlight that comes with, which helps in the dark.
My opinion is: Buy a chemical killer. Do not waste your money.
Don't know what I'd do without this!Jul 05, 2010 Ever since the mid-nineties, I've lived in East County San Diego, and we have an ANT PROBLEM out here. They are these little tiny ants that are very fast and crawl over everything AND they BITE. Right now I'm ordering Riddex for about the fourth time.
The first one I ordered from QVC. WE had tried everything to get rid of these ants. Cleaning, exterminators, home remedies. We really did our homework, and the closest I could come was finding that they are Argentinian ants that nest in the walls. We seriously doubted that this product from QVC would actually work. It cost about $50 for one at that time, but within a little over a week...the ants were gone. They used to crawl over the dining room table and our food while we were eating, bite us while we slept, and believe me...everything was pristine clean.
Unfortunately...the device lost its power after about five or so years, and I hunted for one on the internet for a quite some time, and then "AT LAST!"...there it was. I ordered two for the price of one about eight years ago, and have had some problems with them (i.e. my microwave blew when I plugged one into the same socket). So...now I know not to do that. Also...some of them I've had have been less powerful or last a shorter period of time. But all in all...it's worth it to me to be insect free. I've never had a problem with roaches or mice (knock on wood), but the minute I see a few spiders...I know I should replace my Riddex.
I just ordered two because the red warning light has been blinking, and the ants are back. Hope they'll be gone soon, and some of the reviewers are correct. Two units work better than one. I'm sorry this device hasn't worked for many of you. It's been like a miracle for me for 15 years. I hope I continue to feel that way.
This Did Work For MeJun 23, 2010 This product did work for me. I got my apartment chemically treated for roaches first. I then plugged the unit into my kitchen area, but I saw that roaches were in my bed and bathroom areas which I had not seen before. So I bought another unit and plugged into the bedroom area. Using two units has worked for me. I did see an increase of roaches in the beginning, but I think they were coming out of the walls and didn't know they were suppose to go outside the building. I still continue to clean and take the trash out daily. I hope this helps.
