tangled deer fliesJul 16, 2010 this is a great product...put it over dark blue duct tape on a hard hat. i wear the hat to mow and work around the yard. deer flies circle, land, then never leave and never bite again!

Tanglefoot is devasting to birdsJun 14, 2010 Please don't try Tree Tanglefoot. It's devastating to birds. They get their feet stuck on it, and when they try to fly away, their wings get glued to the sticky stuff on the branch. I was at a conference of wildlife rehabilitators, and went to a presentation about a case study of 60 some odd Purple martins that got stuck to tree limbs that had been coated with Tree Tanglefoot. A concerted effort by a rehab center managed to wash and save about 40 of the birds. If the Tree Tanglefoot that's mentioned in the email is the same thing (the conference was several years back) I would avoid it at all costs.

The ONE and ONLY!Jun 05, 2010 Tanglefoot is a MUST have for any home owner! I use it on my fruit trees/shade trees/shrubs.
Three steps:
1. 1" wide self-stick foam weather strip around bottom of trunk.
2. Tinfoil pressed tightly around foam strip.
3. Use plastic disposable knife to spread Tanglefoot on the tinfoil. (you might want to use disposable gloves.)
Trap those pests before they can climb the tree and infect your treasured trees/fruit.
Do Not put directly on tree. And be sure to use the weather stripping to prevent critters from climbing up inside the Tanglefoot.
Happy Gardening!

Great BarrierApr 12, 2009 Great environmentally safe product which will protect your trees.
In most cases it only needs to be applied every other year.
The substance is VERY sticky so wear gloves and apply it with something disposable. I usually use a thin piece of wood or a stick.
It will also curtail climbers into your trees if you apply it to the lower branches.
