44 for 6 on pack ratsJul 21, 2010
I wanted to write something on the use of this item for killing pack rats: Those cute little creatures that end up destroying everything from car wiring to foam insulation and more. I live in Tucson and I bought a rat zapper. At first I thought it might be to small. Pack rats are larger than you average house rat. First night i woke up to find the food gone but no rat. Not sure why but that was followed by 3 kills. Then one with a blinking red light but no rat and food still intact. Again not sure why. Today another kill. Overall I am really pleased. It does work with pack rats as long as they are not from areas where they grow to large like in northern Cal. Dry dog food works great as bait.

5It caught my mouse.Jun 22, 2010
I followed the instructions that were in the reviews which was to put the trap in an undisturbed area. It turns out that I was away for a few days and that's when my mouse was caught. The mouse sized trap was too small for my well fed mouse who had been in our apt. for at least a few months. I haven't reset the trap but I was so happy to see that it had actually caught the mouse. The product states that it is not safe when placed near small children or pets. Other than that it is a great mouse trap.

5It actually worksMay 21, 2010
I honestly had my doubts about this trap, but my sister kept nagging me about rats in the house so I finally put it to use after letting it catch dust for a couple of months after I bought it. I put some peanut butter in the back, and I think my brother sprinkled some cheese on the platform preceding the electrically charged plate. A few days later, one unlucky mouse is dead. I was pleasantly surprised.

1Useless Hunk of PlasticMay 20, 2010
In reading other reviews, I was surprised to see that this piece of garbage had actually worked for anyone else. For my part, I tried several different kinds of bait with no luck. I live in an old house that has been over run by rats. I bought this thing at Home Depot and, after a week and a half without a single rat killed, I finally took it back for a refund. I know that the rats had gone into it, because they took the bait and left some junk. It's possible that I just got a deffective one, but at $40 a pop, I'm not willing to give it another shot.

2First one worked for a while, second didn't work at allMay 03, 2010
The first unit worked for a while.
Until, I think some debris (fur) got the electrical path clogged.
Despite repeated and careful cleaning, I could never get it to work again.

The replacement never worked at all.

My opinion is that the are poorly designed and assembled.
Doesn't look the least bit weather/water-proof. (I made a plastic box from a plastic bin with a mouse hole cut out to protect it - and they still died...)
Cheap plastic. Loose wires "held" in place with scotch tape. Metal that rusts...
More than once, I managed to zap myself while holding it near the battery cover - no where near the inside.
Oh, and they died an early death.
